Grass straws are made of 100% natural grass. This plant is also known as sedge grass or lepironia articulata grass. The sedge grass grows a lot in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The effect of the sedge grass is now only serving the handicraft industry and traditional mat-making villages. Currently, sedge grass is being exploited for the food industry. 1. What is the production process of grass straws ?

a. Harvest and clean the soil on the grass trunk

At this step, it is necessary to evaluate the quality of the grass for harvesting based on the number of years from 1 to 1.5 years. Many farmers have grown this grass in large quantities because the grass grows all year. They grow regardless of the dry or rainy season. Thus, the harvesting process will be calculated quite easily. b. Cut grass straw with laser according to specifications

After harvesting, the grass is cut based on the needs of the customer to proceed with cutting to the appropriate size. Generally, the size from 18 - 20 cm is the most commonly used size suitable for everyone using grass straw.

c. Clean the tube inside and outside after cutting

In the grass straw is made up of many partitions, it is imperative to use an iron bar to clean the internal partitions and ensure that the tip of the pipe is completely clean. They will be thoroughly scrubbed again. After that, grass straw is soaked in physiological saline to help remove and disinfect the remaining microorganisms and not affect the user.

d. Cleaning, drying and sterilizing

After soaking in salt water, it will be soaked again with water, then grass straw will be brought into a sterilized oven for 7 hours at temperature of 40 - 50 degrees Celsius to ensure that they are completely dried.

e. Checking grass straw quality

After drying, the grass straw will be brought down for inspection and removal of poor quality straws and only the large and beautiful straws will be kept.

f. Packaging products

After being carefully selected, the straws will be packed into paper boxes according to specifications.

2. How to preserve grass straws

Grass straws have been optimized for drying and sterilization to ensure that the product has a shelf life of more than 12 months. Therefore, maintaining straws also becomes easier, just keep the straws in a dry place. Dry and cool, the product will be preserved for a long time without affecting the quality.
