1. Where does pineapple come from?

a. Queen pineapple group.
Pineapple in this group has an average weight and size of 500 - 900 grams, the leaf plate is narrow, hard, with many spines at the edge of the leaf, the inner surface of the leaf blade has white veins running parallel to many leaves. Flowers are pinkish green, fruit eyes are convex, transport-resistant, fruit flesh is dark yellow, characteristic aroma, sweet taste.
This is the group of pineapples with the highest quality being grown popularly in our country and represented by varieties: flower pineapple, pineapple pineapple, Vitoria pineapple, pineapple.
b. Pineapple Cayen (or Smooth Cayenne)
This pineapple belongs to the group with an average weight of 1.5 - 2.0 kg/fruit. Leaves are dark green, long, thick, with no spines or very few spines at the base or tip. Flowers are pink, reddish, cylindrical (egg-shaped), large fruit eyes, shallow eye sockets. Ripening gradually, when ripe, the yellow color gradually changes from the stem to the tip of the fruit. Representative varieties are: Chan Mong, Duc Trong, China, Thailand, Cayen with thorns, and Mexico.
Although this type is not very high quality, it is grown a lot for processing because the large fruit is easy to mechanize, for economic efficiency. Based on the characteristics of each pineapple group, we find that Cayen pineapple group is most suitable for the industrial production of pineapple products such as canned goods, pineapple juice, pineapple syrup.
c. Spanish pineapple group (Spanish or Red Spanish)
This group of pineapples has an average weight of 700 - 1000 grams. The leaves are soft, the edges are curved more towards the back, the density of spines is unevenly distributed on the leaf edges. The flowers themselves are light red, When ripe, the pods are dark red, the eye pits are deep, the flesh is yellow, light in the sun, sour, and fibrous. Representatives are the varieties: pineapple, honey pineapple, pineapple. This pineapple is of the worst quality.
In Vietnam, pineapples are grown from North to South, on an area of about 40,000 hectares, with an output of over 500,000 tons/year, of which 90% of the area is concentrated in the South.
